On August 7, 1964 The United States Congress passed The Tonkin Resolution. This Resolution authorized Presidential action in Vietnam, and was a result of reported North Vietnamese boat attacks on two U.S. Destroyers five days earlier. By the end of March 1973 the last troops in Vietnam had left. The last remaining American civilians were evacuated from Saigon on April 29th, 1975 as Communist forces completed their takeover in the South.

5/22/1988 - It is Important to note that the Vietnam experience is a complicated one. Because of the length of the war and the way tours of duty were set, experiences differed greatly. I encourage those who take a greater interest to read more about the war and those who fought it. Just the mention of Vietnam often stirs every kind of emotion. Great debate often ensues and opinions about the war are strong and diverse. One fact however is clear, over 58,000 American servicemen died, and over two thousand are still unaccounted for. Please honor and remember them often and especially this Memorial day. Gary Thomas.
